Beautification

Kevin Cole heads up the Beautification crew with 4 full-time and 6 seasonal employees. The Beautification Department provides for the landscaping and beautification projects for City Hall and all other city property and buildings. Examples of beautification efforts can be seen at City Hall, the Welcome to Jacksonville sign, and at the Veteran’s Memorial. Efforts of this type present a pleasing image to the visitors of Jacksonville and instill pride in the citizens of the city.

Maintenance Responsibilities

The Beautification crew maintains 23 islands and 34 yards around the city. They plant an average of 1,700 flowers, shrubs and trees yearly. They also help the Street Department with mowing some of the right of ways that we want the have a more finished look.

Even though it's not the responsibility of the city to maintain any of the state's right of ways, as part of an effort to make the city look sharp beautification mows 3 miles of ditches along Highway 67/167. Also as part of this effort Beautification is in charge of removing litter along all the right of ways. This is achieved with manpower from the city jail. Trustees who volunteer put in over 5,000 hours labor picking up over 10 tons of trash yearly!
