The Patrol Division is the uniformed backbone division of the Jacksonville Police Department. Our Patrol Officers are fully trained to handle any call for service. Such duties include emergencies, disturbances, traffic and crowd control, and preliminary investigations of criminal activity and motor vehicle accidents. The Patrol Division is made up of officers from the rank of Patrol Officer to Captain. These officers work either Days (7am-3pm), Evenings (3pm-11pm), or Midnights (11pm-7am), giving 24 hour coverage to the city, 365 days a year. The Patrol Division also includes the Community Policing Section (COPS), our innovative Crime Prevention Programs, Selective Traffic Enforcement Officer, and School Resource Officers.

 

 

 

The Patrol Division is the most recognizable part of the Police Department and has the most contact with residents and visitors of the city. The officers are most frequently seen in marked police cruisers, vehicles equipped with mobile data terminals & laptop computers, video surveillance cameras, and first aid equipment - all of which are intended to make Jacksonville a safer place to live and work.

The Patrol Division is under the command of Captain K. Smiley, who oversees the Patrol Division's approximate 47 officers. The Patrol Division Captain is responsible for allocating uniform personnel to ensure adequate Police coverage. Other functions include the scheduling of vacations, sick time, shift assignments, training, special events, and off-duty jobs.
