Jacksonville has a Mayor/Council form of government.
We have five wards with two aldermen, elected at
large, representing each ward. The Mayor functions
as the Chief Executive Officer of the city and
spearheads economic development and long-term
planning.
The Mayor, Municipal Judge, City Clerk, and City
Attorney serve four-year terms, while the aldermen
serve two-year terms.

Mayor
Swaim is a long-time resident of Jacksonville and
has always been very active in the community. He
is currently serving his 15th year as a member of
the Arkansas Municipal League Executive Committee.
Also, he is on the Advisory Council and a member
of the Small Cities Steering Committee of the
National League of Cities. Additionally he serves
on the Board of Directors of CARELINK, Metroplan
Planning Organization, and the Central Arkansas
Planning and Development District.

Susan
Davitt is a member of the Arkansas City Clerks,
Recorders and Treasurers Association and the IIMC
(International Institute of Municipal Clerks). In
addition to her duties as City Clerk, she also
acts as secretary to the City Council, Planning
Commission, Board of Adjustment, Civil Service
Commission, and also serves on the Police and Fire
Pension Boards.
